£44m attacker now refusing to sign new contract as he feels Arsenal move is possible this month

Arsenal are yet to make a signing in this winter window – with just under two weeks remaining until the February 3rd transfer deadline.

Mikel Arteta has already admitted that Arsenal will search the market for attacking reinforcements after Gabriel Jesus suffered a serious knee injury, saying: “We are going to try for sure. We are actively looking. We will try. Let’s see what we can get.”

Arsenal are exploring a deal for Igor Jesus of Botafogo – according to Eduardo Burgos – while the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Dusan Vlahovic have also been linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium.

Now – however – a different forward is waiting for a move to Arsenal in Matheus Cunha.

Team News and Ticks – an Arsenal insider who regularly breaks accurate news – is now claiming that the Brazil international is “trying everything” to join the Gunners.

On Patreon, Team News and Ticks stated: “Cunha situation is now quite messy. Player had agreed terms with Arsenal but also with Wolves on new deal, but is refusing to sign it because he feels he has a chance of going to Arsenal and is trying everything to make it happen. Arsenal will not be held to ransom on price. Both Cunha staying or coming to Arsenal are still possible.”

TBR Football understand Wolves have no intention of losing Cunha this winter as Vitor Pereira aims to drag the Old Gold away from the relegation zone – they currently sit outside of the bottom three on goal difference.

Without the South American attacker, Wolves would find themselves in an ever greater mess – the Brazil international has scored ten goals and provided four assists in 21 Premier League appearances so far this season.

Cunha – who is tied down at Molineux until June 2027 – also cost Wolves £44m when they signed him from Atletico Madrid back in January 2023, so Arsenal would presumably need to offer much more than that sum if a move is to materialise.

Matheus Cunha can cover several positions for Mikel Arteta

Not only is Jesus injured, but Bukayo Saka also looks set to be sidelined until March.

Therefore, Arsenal could use a forward who can play in multiple positions across the frontline, and Cunha is exactly that type of player.

In the current campaign alone, the 25-year-old has already featured in attacking midfield and as a striker for Wolves, while also making two appearances on the left and one on the right flank.

In that respect, the Wolves No.10 would be an ideal winter addition for Arteta if Arsenal can strike an agreement.
