Arsenal have been linked with Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee in recent weeks, and speculation around his future is continuing to do the rounds.

In January, The Telegraph reported that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has been keeping tabs on the 22-year-old Netherlands international.

Then, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported – also last month – that Arsenal will set aside €50million (around £43million) to sign Zirkzee in the summer.

However, the Gunners will have a real battle on their hands to sign the Dutchman. As well as Arsenal, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are apparently in pursuit.

Calciomercato have provided an update on the state of play involving Zirkzee and some of his suitors.

The report claimed that, barring any significant setbacks, the attacking talent ‘will say goodbye’ to Bologna in the summer.

Zirkzee apparently has a €40million (£34million) clause only valid for former club Bayern. Other clubs, like Arsenal, would have to spend ‘in excess’ of that.

Man United are reportedly the overseas frontrunners for Zirkzee, while AC Milan are said to be crazy about the player as well.

Arsenal target Joshua Zirkzee earns Dennis Bergkamp comparisons

Zirkzee is likely to be the subject of a transfer saga in the summer. And Arsenal should definitely keep tabs on the 22-year-old with a view to a potential move.

He is a quality player with amazing potential and a high ceiling with comparisons to Highbury legend Dennis Bergkamp.

Former Italy international Francesco Graziani is quoted as saying by Bologna Sport News in December: “Technically he is very good and has shown that he sees the goal.

“In Zirkzee I seem to see the Dutch Dennis Bergkamp: someone who made your eyes shine with his technique.”

Zirkzee has nine goals and six assists from 24 Bologna outings this season. He has helped the modest side to sixth in the Serie A table.

Let’s see what happens in the summer. The prospect of Bergkamp mk II at Arsenal should be an exciting one for the Gunners faithful.
