Newcastle United remain in pursuit of a new manager after parting company with Steve Bruce last month.
The Magpies were reportedly hoping to appoint Unai Emery, but he ruled himself out of contention for the role.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Emery said Villarreal is “my home”.

“I am grateful for the interest of a great club, but even more grateful to be here,” he wrote.
A number of managers have been linked with the Newcastle reins since the club’s long-awaited takeover.
Now, in wake of Emery’s snub, multiple outlets are claiming the Magpies have turned their attention to Eddie Howe over the role.
According to Chronicle Live, the 43-year-old is still keen to become Newcastle’s new head coach despite “the fact he was clearly not first choice for the job”.

The former Bournemouth boss has already had some contact with the Magpies, added the outlet.
However, he is reportedly hoping to step that up with face-to-face talks with Amanda Staveley.
In addition, Howe is apparently keen to bring in his own backroom team and keen to have familiarity around him.
Those assurances were not forthcoming last summer when he turned down the chance to manage Celtic, claimed the outlet.
Although it remains to be seen whether Newcastle will be open to Howe “effectively naming his own director of football”, Chronicle Live insists the coach is keen on the Magpies project and wants further talks.
