Liverpool have reportedly expressed an interest in bringing Aurelien Tchouameni to Anfield this summer.

In February, Tuttosport – via Sport Witness – initially claimed the Reds have been ‘very close’ to Franck Kessie.

However, they then said Liverpool are ‘now more interested’ in Tchouameni.

In November, TuttoJuve reported that the Frenchman would boast a £42million price tag.

When Georginio Wijnaldum left Liverpool on a free transfer last year, Jurgen Klopp opted to promote from within.

The likes of Curtis Jones and Tyler Morton have been doing incredibly well for the Reds.

Nonetheless, there’s certainly scope for Klopp to bring in fresh legs in midfield during the summer.

And if any Liverpool scouts were following France’s friendly against Ivory Coast, they’d have been impressed with Tchouameni.

The 22-year-old put in a superb display for Les Bleus as they ran out 2-1 winners in Marseille.

Nicolas Pepe gave Ivory Coast the lead on 19 minutes before Olivier Giroud equalised three minutes later.

The game looked to be heading towards a draw, but then Tchouameni stepped up to seal a late victory.

The Monaco star rose highest to power home a header from Matteo Guendouzi’s corner in the 93rd minute.

“Exuded a disconcerting serenity”

French media outlets loved what they saw from Tchouameni.

Footmercato named him their man of the match and gave him 7.5 out of 10.

“Strong and promising,” they wrote.

“Very comfortable technically, and displaying a very interesting bond with his friend of the day in the midfield, the AS Monaco midfielder has once again made a strong impression in the national team.

“His volume of play has done a lot of good for the Blues, causing de facto a lot of worries for Cote d’Ivoire.

“To crown his beautiful evening, he offered victory to France at the end of the match, with a fierce header from a corner.”

Dailymercato, meanwhile, gave him 8 out of 10.

“With the ball at his feet, the AS Monaco midfielder exuded a disconcerting serenity, making his high volume of play speak for itself,” they wrote.

“Author of a big defensive comeback on Kessie in the French penalty area, the player trained in Bordeaux proved to be valuable in recovery and fair in its forward transmissions.

“Before signing the coup de grace by offering victory to the Blues in the last moments of the meeting with a powerful header.”
