42 touches, 5 duels won: Raphinha was excellent again for Leeds against West Ham
Leeds United continue to search for a first Premier League win of the season following a home defeat against West Ham yesterday.
Michail Antonio struck very late in the day to seal a comeback win for the Hammers at Elland Road. It was another dagger to the heart for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, who have just not quite got going as yet this term.
But while it was another defeat for Leeds, it’s not like the performance was anything to really have a moan about. They did well in the main, and youngsters such as Charlie Cresswell and Jamie Shackleton performed well.
In terms of more established stars, the display from £17m man Raphinha was once again a highlight. And not just for his goal either.
The Brazilian is really lighting things up at Elland Road at times. He got himself on the scoresheet as we all know, but overall, his performance was one of a player who will go onto big things in the game.
Raphinha impresses again for Leeds
The Brazilian often does something in a game to catch the eye. But he’s also started doing a lot of good things which influence matches too. And this was the case yesterday.
Per stats provided by Squawka, Raphinha was pretty much at the hub of everything good Leeds did. He won five duels, took 42 touches – mainly in wide areas – and beat his marker to get a cross in three times.
He hit the woodwork, drew fouls, and, as we’ve mentioned, got his goal.
Clubs are already starting to take notice of Raphinha outside of Leeds. The likes of Liverpool are said to have watched him, for example.
And while he was on the losing side yesterday, there is no doubt the Brazilian is a player of immense quality. More performances like this, and we could well see a scramble for his signature next summer.
