West Brom’s search for a new manager continues this week, but took a sharp turn when the recently-relegated club announced the departure of technical director Luke Dowling. It leaves the Baggies without any kind of management structure – but a new man has put himself in the frame to replace Dowling.

Sam Allardyce is yet to be replaced and despite Chris Wilder seeming as though he was the ideal candidate, but a move to bring in the ex-Sheffield United gaffer has fallen through. That is because the board were concerned by the lack of relationship Wilder had with the board at Bramall Lane.

Perhaps, in turn, that decision has led to the exit of Dowling. The Baggies remain without a manager. The front runners remain as Derek McInnes and Alex Neil – but a decision does not look close to being made. Now, Paul Scharner has thrown his hat into the ring – but his Tweet is much more likely to be as a replacement for Dowling.

Is Scharner the man to take West Brom forward?

Scharner is adored by West Brom fans. He only played for the Baggies for two years and clocked up 64 appearances in that time, but he struck a chord. While he has no experience in management, he could be more of a heartfelt appointment that would really be appreciated by fans.

In the past, Scharner has spoken about what he would do if he was installed as director of football at The Hawthorns. In the past, he has even stated his interest in the role on Twitter. Posting on Twitter just hours after the exit of Dowling, he could be a contender.
