£40m striker is way more likely to join Tottenham than Dominic Solanke

Tottenham are looking for a new striker this summer as they try to replace Harry Kane.

One year on from the England captain’s move to Bayern Munich, Spurs are looking for a new striker, and a number of interesting players have been linked.

Dominic Solanke is said to be someone Spurs are keen on, and those rumours are heating up.

However, according to Dean Jones, speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, a move for Solanke may not be in the pipeline.

Indeed, Jones says that Solanke may be too expensive for Tottenham, claiming that a move for Ivan Toney is much more realistic at this point.

Ivan Toney more realistic than Dominic Solanke for Tottenham

Jones shared what he knows about the £40m striker and Tottenham.

“He’s too expensive he’s £65m (Solanke), if Richarlison leaves Tottenham then maybe, but without that I don’t see how it’s plausible, I’d say Ivan Toney is much more realistic,” Jones said.

“I think we’re looking at Toney going to the wire, and if Tottenham haven’t signed a striker by the end of the window they could go and sign him.”

Tottenham may be able to afford Dominic Solanke

Solanke would be expensive, but this is a deal that Spurs should be able to do.

Tottenham, in theory, should still have some of the Harry Kane money from last summer leftover, while the impending sales of players such as Emerson Royal and Djed Spence should give Tottenham some extra transfer funds.

This deal would be costly, but it’s not beyond the realms of possibility.

Of course, there is a debate to be had about whether or not Solanke would be better than Toney, and that is something Tottenham need to figure out as they search for a new striker.

Toney appears to be more likely to join Spurs than Solanke right now, but there’s an argument to be made that Solanke would be the better signing, even if he is more expensive.
