TBR Football can now deliver an exclusive update on a striker Manchester United want to sign, as Ruben Amorim targets further attacking reinforcements.

Matheus Cunha has already moved to Old Trafford after scoring 15 Premier League goals for Wolves last season.

TBR Football understand Bryan Mbeumo wants to follow the Brazilian to Manchester United, as talks between Brentford and the Red Devils continue.

Manchester United are also in the market for a more traditional No.9 to use alongside Cunha and Mbeumo, with talks already taking place to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta from Crystal Palace.

TBR Football can now provide an update on this situation.

Jean-Philippe Mateta advancing in talks over a new contract at Crystal Palace

Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent at TBR Football – has now been told that the Frenchman and Crystal Palace are making solid progress in discussions over a new deal.

The Crystal Palace No.14 sees his current terms expire in June 2027.

We understand Mateta spoke to Manchester United in April as talks over a new deal at Selhurst Park stalled, where he made it clear he wanted a pay rise to reflect his status as one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

Since Oliver Glasner replaced Roy Hodgson in February 2024, the man born in Sevran has impressively scored 30 goals in 59 appearances, while also recording five assists, taking his value up to £40m.

TBR Football can reveal that Crystal Palace are pleased about how contract talks are now progressing with Mateta, and they firmly believe the 27-year-old wants to stay in SE25.

In regards to Mateta himself, the FA Cup winner thoroughly believes he has a chance of making the France squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup next summer, and feels his best chance of doing that would be by remaining at Crystal Palace.

Manchester United still have the Olympic Games silver medalist on their radar, but he is by no means waiting for the Red Devils.

Wayne Rooney has already said he thinks Jean-Philippe Mateta starts for Manchester United or Arsenal

Wayne Rooney feels Mateta is good enough for Manchester United, as the Old Trafford legend revealed on the BBC in April.

Speaking ahead of the FA Cup semi-final between Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, the Englishman said: “I was looking at the summer thinking Arsenal or Man United would try and take him, because he gets into both of their teams.

“He is a handful. He is big, he is strong, he is quick. He’s a bit awkward and clumsy at times, but he is a handful.

“I’m sure if you ask any defenders, he doesn’t give them any easy games. He occupies defenders and makes it really difficult for them, which allows other players to come into the game, and he scores goals.

“He has been one of the best forwards in the Premier League over the last couple of years. I am surprised, with no disrespect to Palace, that other big teams have not come and signed him.”
