Peter O’Rourke has suggested that Aaron Ramsdale really wants to join Arsenal this summer on The Football Terrace.

Arsenal are said to have made Ramsdale their first choice goalkeeping target.

The Gunners have actually had two bids rejected for Ramsdale already, but they are now prepped to bid for a third time.

Sheffield United have so far fought hard to keep Ramsdale.

But things could turn sour, as O’Rourke thinks that there is a possibility that the 23-year-old could hand in a transfer request.

“Two bids have been turned down and I believe they’re preparing a third bid of close to £30 million,” O’Rourke said.

“Ramsdale is very keen to make this move happen, he wants to get back to the Premier League, and would jump at the chance to move to the Emirates Stadium.

“Crazily enough I’ve heard recently that Sheffield United are holding out for £40 million.

“But Arsenal’s goalkeeping coach is still pushing for this deal, he says that Ramsdale is their number one choice if they are to bring in a goalkeeper.

“I fully expect them to get the Ramsdale deal done even though Sheffield United are trying to get as much money as they can for the keeper.

“If this next bid gets rejected I would expect Ramsdale to force the issue and possibly hand in a transfer request.”

Arsenal backing Ramsdale

It is interesting to see Arsenal targeting Ramsdale so heavily.

He has actually been relegated in the last two seasons, but it appears that he is a player who has cropped up on Arsenal’s wishlist to sign due to his potential.

Ramsdale is still only young for a goalkeeper, and he has shown signs of real promise in his two Premier League seasons to date.

If he was to join Arsenal he may have to improve with the ball at his feet, given Mikel Arteta’s desire to build from the back.

But his shot-stopping could appeal, especially with Bernd Leno not fully convincing over the past year.
