Jermain Defoe says he would score 40 goals per season if he played alongside Tottenham talisman Harry Kane.
Speaking to ESPN, Defoe said he would love to play alongside Kane or Manchester City playmaker Kevin de Bruyne.
He was asked which current Premier League stars he would like to play alongside and said he would deadly in the modern game if chances were created for him.
Manchester City have just signed Erling Haaland to get on the end of de Bruyne’s deliveries, while Antonio Conte has been wedded to a 3-4-3 system since his arrival.

Defoe says he would score 40 goals playing with Kane at Tottenham
When asked which current Premier League midfielder he would most like to play with, Defoe said: “Kevin de Bruyne.
“I think if I played with him, I’d score 40 goals. Because, if your movement’s good, then you know you’ll get chances. His passing range is phenomenal.
“Him and Harry Kane. How Harry plays now, if I was at Tottenham with Harry now, I’d score 30-40 goals if I played every game. Their range of passing is phenomenal.”
It is tough to see how Kane and Defoe could play alongside each other in Antonio Conte’s system, with the Italian preferring just a lone striker.
Of course, Kane drops deep these days and plays the likes of Son Heung-min in behind, but he comes from a wider position than Defoe tended to operate in.
They could be a mouth-watering front two in a 3-5-2 or something like that, and it remains to be seen how many Kane gets during a season when he will also have his sights set on World Cup glory.
