Arsenal are said to be one of a number of clubs keen on Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, and the battling star proved his worth last night with a masterclass at Chelsea.
Reports last month from The Sun claimed that Arsenal had already made contact over a potential deal for Bissouma. The Mali international has proven himself as a fine player at Premier League level, so the interest is of little surprise.
Bissouma, still only 24, has been a real fine for Graham Potter. His performances this season has been exceptional, especially for a team who has struggled near the bottom of the table.
And last night at Chelsea, a game which Brighton drew 0-0 but could, and should, have won, Bissouma demonstrated all the qualities that have got teams like Arsenal and Liverpool keeping a close eye.
Bissouma is perfect for Arsenal, he can do it all
While most fans of football who’ve seen Bissouma will class him as a defensive midfielder, last night at Stamford Bridge he proved he can be a bit more than just a deep lying protector.
Per stats from WhoScored.com, Bissouma really did do a bit of everything. He came just short of 90% in terms of his passing and he probed further and further forward in the second half, as Brighton pushed for a winner.
Bissouma took four shots himself, and although none were of particular worry for Kepa in goal, it showed his intent. Further, he also put his foot in, making a midfield team high three tackles, as well as two crucial interceptions.
If Arsenal are wanting to beef up their midfield but add quality, then Bissouma is looking more and more like the man they need. Put him next to Thomas Partey, and the Gunners will have a solid foundation to build around for the 21/22 season.
