£3m man has probably played his final game for Arsenal as transfer rumours now emerge

Marquinhos may have already played his final game for Arsenal as transfer rumours emerge from the Emirates Stadium.

It was Fabrizio Romano and Globo Esporte who provided the information.

So, why might Marquinhos have already played his final game for Arsenal? Let’s take a look…

Marquinhos may have already played final game for Arsenal

Well – according to Romano and Globo Esporte – the Brazilian is set to join Fluminense on loan until the end of the season.

Now, you may argue that this means Marquinhos will return to Arsenal in the summer.

However, Fluminense have negotiated an option to buy the South American, so if he performs well, a permanent exit from the Emirates Stadium is likely.

Romano wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “Fluminense have agreed on loan deal to sign Marquinhos from Arsenal.

“Verbal pact in place to be completed in the coming days. Marquinhos has already accepted, just waiting on final formal steps. Deal to include buy option clause from Arsenal, as Globo Esporte called.”

The Brazil U23 international – who Gabriel Magalhaes recently praised – was signed from São Paulo in a deal worth £3m back in June 2022.

However, Marquinhos – aged 20 – has only ever made six appearances for Arsenal, while also spending time out on loan at Norwich and Nantes.

Arsenal must negotiate buyback or sell-on clause

In our view, Edu needs to secure either a buyback clause or a sell-on clause before offloading Marquinhos to Fluminense.

The Brazilian is still just 20 years of age and has plenty of time to fulfil his vast potential, the potential which convinced Arsenal to sign him in the first place.

Therefore, the Gunners will not want to find themselves in a position where Marquinhos is one of football’s most exciting talents within a few years, with no chance of profiting from it.

Hopefully, Edu has safeguarded Arsenal with one of these clauses – if not both.
