Steven Gerrard is one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever players.
The legendary Englishman spent most of his career at Anfield, and he was among the best in the business in the middle of the park.
Gerrard has been retired for many years now, but he is still adored by everyone at Liverpool – not just the fans but the players as well.
One of them was recently taken by surprise after hearing what the Reds icon said about him.
Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister reacts to praise from Steven Gerrard
Alexis Mac Allister joined Liverpool from Brighton and Hove Albion for an initial fee of £35 million in the summer of 2023 (Sky Sports).
The Argentina international has been a very good signing for the Reds. He has been really consistent and played a key part in helping them win the Premier League title last season.
Steven Gerrard, who knows a thing or two about being a world-class player, recently named Mac Allister as one of the three best midfielders in the world alongside Rodri and Vitinha.
Earlier this week, when Mac Allister attended the PFA Awards, he was told by ESPN UK about Gerrard’s praise for him.
The World Cup winner was surprised to hear that.
“Really? Wow,” he said. “Really, really special coming from Steven. As you said, he is a legend of Liverpool. We all love him and appreciate this kind of thing.
“So, happy with that. Didn’t expect it, but it’s really good.”
Alexis Mac Allister compares himself to a Spain legend
Mac Allister is a very complete midfielder.
The former Brighton man can play in all three positions in the middle of the park, and he has produced some very good performances in each of those roles.
However, when asked to name a player he shares similarities with, Mac Allister named Barcelona and Spain legend Xavi.
He said in the same interview: “I don’t know, I’ve never thought about it. That’s a good question. I try to play my game, do what I can and what I know.
“If you ask me about similarities, it’s maybe more about Xavi, someone who tries to think about the game. He didn’t shine a lot, but he was really, really important for his team. So, that’s what I want.”
