£30m Tottenham target will consider offers after pre-season tour omission

Tottenham Hotspur have been moderately busy on the transfer front this summer, getting one signing over the line thus far.

Spurs have signed England youth midfielder Archie Gray from Leeds, while Wales defender Joe Rodon has gone the other way.

Meanwhile, Lucas Bergvall has finally arrived at Tottenham after they struck a deal over the youngster with Djurgardens in January.

Plenty of other players are being linked with a switch to Spurs, including a defender who plays for one of their Premier League – and London – rivals.

Now, the player in question will reportedly be assessing options from other clubs after he was omitted from his team’s pre-season tour.

The player in question is Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, who the Blues have decided not to take on their pre-season tour of the United States.

Chalobah has been linked with a move to Tottenham recently, and this development may have opened the door for them to make a move.

Now, according to Ed Aarons of The Guardian, Chalobah feels he is being forced out of Chelsea against his will after being left out of the club’s pre-season tour.

Aarons then claimed that the 25-year-old is determined not to rush to sign for the first team that makes an offer and will instead assess the options that come his way.

Door open for Spurs to move for Chalobah

Tottenham are currently light on central defenders as things stand. Just Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin and Cristian Romero are available as senior centre-halves.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are well-stocked in that department. With Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana and Axel Disasi all in the squad, Chalobah is way down the pecking order at centre-back.

Chalobah, who reportedly has a £30million price tag, is talented, yet to hit his prime as a defender, and has extensive Premier League and Champions League experience.

The reported Spurs target is also blessed with outstanding speed. In 2022, he told UEFA.com: “My highest would be probably 34km/h.”

Chalobah also featured prominently in the second half of last season after a long injury layoff, starting many of his club’s Premier League games from March onwards.

With all that in mind, Tottenham should certainly consider making an approach for the 6ft 3in ace.
