Up: Fabio Borini
Fabio Borini has never looked worth the £14 million striker that Sunderland invested in over the summer, and after losing his place to Dame N’Doye and Wahbi Khazri, looked like he would play a minimal part in Sunderland’s survival efforts.
But Borini was not to be put down. After coming on as a late substitute, with Sunderland 2-1 down to an out of form Crystal Palace, the Italian struck an excellent equaliser from a tight angle that lifted Sunderland out of the bottom three. There may have been debate over whether Borini intended to cross the ball, but all that matters is the Black Cats picked up a vital point.
It could prove to be a big goal if Big Sam’s men stay up.
