In a story as good as Heurelho Gomes’ double penalty save, there is always a Saido Berahino. There is always a striker who has been foiled twice by the heroic goalkeeper. Sadly for West Brom, that striker was Saido Berahino, who tamely missed his first penalty before Gomes saved his second attempt.

Whilst his reaction to missing the first penalty should be commended, and he was mature enough to accept responsibility for the defeat, the fact remains that the Baggies would have won the game without his carelessness from the spot.

His reaction to such disappointment is critical. It hopefully won’t affect him too badly, but he faces a big end of the season to regain his confidence.
