It’s finally been confirmed. Aston Villa have been relegated.

The midlands club have been in meltdown all season, and no player has encapsulated the problems with the playing personnel at Villa than former England defender Joleon Lescott. After the embarrassment of tweeting a picture of a sports car “accidentally” just hours after Villa’s 6-0 loss to Liverpool earlier in the campaign, Lescott followed Villa’s apathetic relegation by claiming that it was a “weight off the shoulders” of the players.

This claim has, quite rightly, angered Villa fans who have been subjected to pure dross on the pitch all season. Should the Birmingham club lose their remaining four games, they will break the Premier League record for the most defeats in a single season. More, even, than the Derby County team of 2007/08. The fans deserve better.
