When Heurelho Gomes dragged down Saido Berahino in the second half of Watford’s game against West Brom, it looked as if he may become the villain of the piece. Watford, who had only won twice in 2016, were 1-0 up and looking for a crucial victory to reach the 40-point mark and gain some form before their FA Cup semi-final next weekend.

However, Gomes dusted himself down and saved Berahino’s penalty. Then, unbelievably, he saved another from the striker after Watford gave away another spot-kick.

Gomes now has the best penalty save ratio of any Premier League goalkeeper in history, with 8 saves from 25 faced at a rate of 32%. He is also the only stopper to have saved multiple penalties this season. A very impressive game.
