At its best, Diego Costa’s attitude can be described as irritating. His constant confrontations with opposition players often work in the favour of his Chelsea side, causing unwelcome distractions for their opponents. He treads very close to the line every game, and against Everton, he definitely crossed it.

In Costa’s game-long battle with Gareth Barry, he was constantly on the edge of being sent off. He was booked for a tussle in the first half, and dismissed for a scrap in the second where he came close to biting the ex-England midfielder.

It was Costa’s first red card in England, and it was a very long time overdue in many people’s opinion. With a charge being issued against him on Monday evening, he may soon be subject to a fairly lengthy ban, compounding his miserable weekend.
