Down: John Terry
There has always seemed to be something quite undignified about the end of John Terry’s Chelsea career, and his red card against Sunderland on Saturday has only exacerbated that further.
Not offered a new deal and seemingly hanging around for a new one, Terry, still Chelsea’s best defender at 35, has never had full control over exiting the club that he has captained for well over a decade.
With no new deal on the horizon, it appears that Terry’s Chelsea career is now over after a pair of yellow cards in Chelsea’s 3-2 loss at Sunderland. It is far from the way a player of Terry’s stature should leave the game.
