Down: Liverpool & Manchester United

Liverpool v Manchester United is supposed to represent something in English football. It supposed to be the perfect embodiment of passion, skill and rivalry, all thrown in together into two of the world’s greatest stadia that generates a perfect storm of a football match. What we saw on Sunday was precisely none of these factors.

Liverpool were the better side, but seemed to lack any quality in the final third whenever they got in a position to find the target. Manchester United were abysmal. Their one shot on target being Rooney’s rebounded winner after Marouane Fellaini had hit the crossbar with a header.

Neither side deserved to win, and that is the sad state of both sides at present. Neither deserve anything better than their mediocre league positions are showing at the moment. It really is such a shame.
