Up: Southampton
Southampton have been very puzzling this season. From week to week it is impossible to predict whether they are going to be meek or magnificent; whether they will swat aside leaders Arsenal 4-0 or stumble to a hopeless loss at Norwich.
Thankfully for Saints fans, their midweek victory over Watford was followed by another fine performance against West Bromwich Albion. Young midfielder James Ward-Prowse excelled, with two goals, before substitute Dusan Tadic added a third late on. They completely dominated the in-form Baggies, and their lead never looked under threat. It was the kind of performance that took the South Coast club to Europe last season.
Couple this with the outlandishly cheap capture of proven goalscorer Charlie Austin for a paltry £4 million, it was, as Ronald Koeman attested, a perfect day for Southampton.
