Down: Jose Mourinho
After being both lauded and scalded for his negative tactics at Anfield last Monday, Jose Mourinho’s return to Chelsea was a humbling one as his side were ripped apart by Chelsea.
United had little threat in attack, and were so leaky at the back that even N’Golo Kante was able to score against them. Behind in the first minute, things never got better for them, and they were well and truly thumped.
Not an afternoon to remember for the Special One on his return to Stamford Bridge.
Down: John Stones
Oh dear, oh dear, John. What a bad error.
Manchester City’s formed has tailed off alarmingly since a draw in the Champions League with Celtic last month, and their chances of getting back on top were severely hampered when John Stones gifted Nathan Redmond the opening goal in City’s game with Southampton.
From then on, his side were struggling against the organised Saints, and were fairly fortunate to come away with a point. At nearly £50 million, Stones should not be passing the ball backwards near his own penalty area without knowing it is safe. It was just plain daft.
Down: Goals
But for Winston Reid’s late goal against Sunderland, there would have been four goalless draws on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League.
Even with it, there were three matches which could not muster a single strike, the first time this had happened since 1999.
In total, there were just 13 goals from eight games on Saturday. A meagre total. Strikers must do better.
