Up: Andy Carroll
Much like the rest of his career, Andy Carroll’s time at West Ham has been hit and miss. Ravaged by injuries throughout his time in London, his impact has been limited and he has been subsequently starved of opportunities to make an impression for the Irons.
This all changed on Saturday lunchtime. Starting against the battle-shy Gabriel Paulista and Laurent Koscielny, Carroll bullied the Arsenal defence into submission, bagging an impressive hat-trick in the space of seven minutes either side of half-time. The gunners simply could not deal with the power and the aerial prowess that the big Geordie possesses.
Naturally, Carroll’s performance caught the eye and opened the debate over his potential role in the England set up. In spite of his injuries and inconsistencies, Carroll remains a very dangerous opponent, especially against weak defences. If he keeps playing like he did against Arsenal, Roy Hodgson would be daft not to consider him.
