Up: Charlie Austin
What a bargain Southampton have got with Charlie Austin.
Six weeks after last turning out for Championship side QPR, the Saint’s £4million forward was only afforded a ten minute run out on his debut. That was all he needed. Austin’s beautifully placed header four minutes from time gave Southampton a 1-0 at Old Trafford for the second season in a row.
Despite lacking match fitness at the moment, Austin’s movement and timing to lose Paddy McNair for the goal was remarkable and showed exactly why is goalscoring record is so good. Everywhere he goes, no matter what division, Austin will find space in the box and score goals. With Graziano Pelle and Shane Long often guilty of some suspect finishing, the addition of Austin will only add to this improving team, who have now won three on the spin. A good week for the Saints.
