Down: Wayne Rooney
There is the temptation to put Paul Pogba in the down category after another indifferent performance in the middle of midfield, but at least the Frenchman showed sparks of skill in a poor game for Manchester United, unlike the England and Red Devils captain.
It is hard to see where Rooney fits into this Manchester United (or indeed any) team at this current time. Against Watford he appeared to be off the pace, too deep, misplacing passes, and generally a hindrance to his team.
Another goal-scoring display from Marcus Rashford, who linked up well with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, just threw the captain’s malaise further into the spotlight.
If Rooney is to continue to play a part for United, he must up his game. We know that Jose Mourinho is not afraid to unsettle the apple cart, so the former Everton man’s spot in the team is far from guaranteed.
