This weekend was all about the North London Derby; both Tottenham and Arsenal had the chance to strike a significant blow on their bitterest rival when they met on Saturday lunchtime, with the winner receiving a big boost in their title chances.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the game ended in a draw, meaning that the real winners of the weekend were leaders Leicester City, who pushed their surprise lead to five points with just nine games remaining. All of a sudden, this title charge doesn’t seem like failing.
At the bottom of the table little changed, although Sunderland pushed a further point clear of the relegation zone despite conceding a last minute equaliser at Southampton. The relegation battle now increasingly appears to be a battle between four teams.
As for the race for Europe, wins for Liverpool and West Ham increased the pressure on Manchester City, but a defeat for Manchester United looks to have severely dampened their Champions League push.
