Up: Relegation battle

For much of the season, there hasn’t appeared to be much of a relegation battle at all, with many viewing Aston Villa, Sunderland and Newcastle as virtually doomed for the whole campaign. This weekend however, may just prove to be the spark needed to kick off a scrap for survival.

Newcastle; with their plethora of new signings, moved out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 win over West Brom. Sunderland fought back to snatch a draw at Anfield to get within four points of 17^th spot, and Aston Villa kept their faint hopes of survival up with a 2-0 win over Norwich, who drop into the bottom three.

With some of the teams above them struggling, and an upturn in fortune for the struggle sides, we may still be treated to an intense relegation battle over the last third of the season, which would make this fine season even better.
