With Antony Martial’s goal, Everton’s season went from disappointing to downright disastrous. The FA Cup was the final hope that the Toffees’ beleaguered manager had in saving their season, but defeat has left them in mid-table and with no silverware.

It wasn’t just the FA Cup defeat that was the problem. Everton have slowly descended from promising European challengers to mid-table fodder who have lost twice as many home games as they’ve won this season.

With the talent available to Martinez, Everton should be much higher up the league and possibly in the FA Cup final. Whether Martinez will stay or go is still to be decided, but this week has certainly not helped his case.
