Many laughed at Rafael Benitez after his rather sudden descent from the Bernabeu to St. James’ Park this season, with the Spanish manager looking as if a season which started in the Champions League would end in the Championship.

However, Benitez is still proving his worth as a Premier League manager, and his arrival at Newcastle has raised hopes of survival. Not only did the strugglers beat Swansea 3-0 last weekend, but have backed it up with a good point against Manchester City and an impressive comeback draw at Anfield over the weekend.

Whatever the ex-Liverpool manager said, and whatever he is doing at the club, is having an effect, and Newcastle look to have regained slim hopes of survival. Whatever the outcome, the Toon Army will be hoping he hangs around for another season.
