For most Premier League footballers, the international break represented the perfect opportunity to get some rest and recharge their dwindling batteries as the season hurtles towards its conclusion. For Dieumerci Mbokani of Norwich City, it was nothing of the sort.

Caught up in the tragic terrorist attacks at Zaventem Airport in Brussels, Mbokani would have been forgiven for taking a break from football after he came so close to serious injury. However, the striker not only made himself available to Alex Neil, he also put in his best performance of the season, and one that could be crucial in securing Norwich’s Premier League status.

Not only did he score a thunderbolt to put Norwich 2-1 up on Newcastle, his all round play was excellent as he won all eight of his ariel duels and harassed the opposition defenders all day long. To put in such a performance after such a horrifying personal event, he deserves the utmost credit at respect. If Norwich stay up, they owe a lot to the courage of Mbokani.
