Stealing into the up category ahead of match-winner Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois showed just how important he will be if the Blues are to regain the title they won in 2015.

With Sunderland hitting back late on to try and rescue a point from their match against the league leaders, Patrick van Aanholt, a former Chelsea man, turned and struck a fierce curling volley which looked destined for the top corner.

That was until Courtois leapt across his goal to claw the ball away, preserving the three points and earning a tenth straight Premier League win for Antonio Conte’s side.
