Three (or five) man defences have become pretty trendy this season in the Premier League, largely thanks to Chelsea, but Everton’s attempt against those opponents was a bit of a shocker.

Ashley Williams, Phil Jagielka and Ramiro Funes Mori couldn’t deal with the presence of Costa and speed of thought provided by Hazard and Pedro, as well as the threat from wing back provided by Victor Moses and the goalscoring Marcos Alonso.

It was an experiment that went badly wrong as the Toffees were outdone in every position. It will be interesting to see if Ronald Koeman tries it again.

Manchester City weren’t great at home to Middlesbrough, but they should have had enough to win the game. They were going to, as well, until the 91st minute, where Martin de Roon’s header gave Boro a fantastic point.

However, the defending from City was largely responsible for the goal. Aleksandr Kolarov got sucked in by Alvaro Negredo, leaving a space for de Roon to charge in and completely destroy a static Gael Clichy in the air.

If the Frenchman had even tried to attack the ball, he may have done enough to stop the goal going in. As it was, City dropped two more points. Poor.

With each passing game, Swansea’s decision to replace Francesco Guidolin with Bob Bradley looks more and more baffling.

Swansea are not yet playing any differently to how they were under Guidolin, they are not winning any more than they were under Guidolin and they are now just one goal away from being bottom of the Premier League.

He may need a settling in period, but we are nearly a third of the way through the season. Things need to turn around fast.
