Liverpool have endured a difficult season and did tremendously well to finish third in the Premier League table.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds were beset by injuries and loss of form to key players for much of the campaign.

However, a superb late run meant Liverpool clinched a spot in next season’s Champions League.

There will also be an opportunity to check out some of Liverpool’s talented youngsters with a view to getting minutes in 2021-22.

Here are three Liverpool talents who Klopp should check out in the summer.

Harvey Elliott

Probably a no-brainer, considering how highly rated he is and how well he’s done on loan at Blackburn.

Elliott has only just turned 18 but already has over 50 senior appearances under his belt.

At Blackburn, Elliott made 41 Championship appearances and registered an impressive tally of seven goals and 11 assists.

Rovers boss Tony Mowbray described him last year as a “hugely high-quality footballer” who makes “wonderful decisions” on the pitch.

Could next season see Elliott break into the Liverpool first team? After all, he’s shown he’s clearly a cut above at Championship level.

Jake Cain

Cain, a 19-year-old midfielder already well known to Klopp, has been in and around the first team this season.

He has made nine Champions League matchday squads and two Premier League matchday squads in 2020-21.

Last season, meanwhile, Cain made his Liverpool debut, in the FA Cup fourth round replay win over Shrewsbury.

According to the Liverpool Echo, regular observers say his running power and is something to behold and early comparisons to Jordan Henderson have been made.

At Under-23 level, Cain scored six goals and claimed five assists from 17 Premier League 2 appearances.

It’s a superb tally for a midfielder and it clearly shows he’s ready for a step up – will it be this summer?

Paul Glatzel

The 20-year-old striker is one of the most highly rated youngsters to come through the Anfield ranks in recent years.

However, Glatzel has been incredibly unlucky with injuries in recent years, which have hampered his first-team progress.

Glatzel suffered an ACL injury in a pre-season friendly against Tranmere in July 2019, which ruled him out long term.

And last December, he sustained ankle ligament damage in a 0-0 draw with Southampton.

However, Glatzel is now fully fit again and it didn’t take him long to shine on his return to the Under-23s.

In the Reds U23s’ last four Premier League 2 games of the season, he registered one goal and four assists.

Liverpool could do with freshening up their front line and hopefully Klopp will take a good look at Glatzel in pre-season.

Fans have previously said he reminded them of the likes of Luis Suarez and Robbie Fowler – high praise indeed.
