Three players Nottingham Forest should offload before the window closes

For those of a Nottingham Forest persuasion, the summer transfer window has represented excitement and offered genuine optimism at what the future might hold in the future.

After signing a plethora of new players during the summer there will be an element of pressure on boss Aitor Karanka to at least challenge for promotion during the forthcoming 2018/19 campaign.

When any club spends a large sum of money on new recruits it often leaves them with scope for certain fringe players to leave and that is definitely the case at the City Ground, with Forest now boasting a pretty large accumulation of players who are surplus to requirements.

The Reds have welcomed 10 new players to the football club and with more expected to follow it seems that some will need to be moved in order to re-balance the books somewhat.

Here, at The Boot Room, we looked at three players that Forest should consider offloading before the transfer window closes…

Jamie Ward

The 32-year-old is at a crossroads in his career and his next move must be the right one for the former Derby County man.

Ward was given a few chances to impress in the first-team last season under Karanka’s management but it now seems that he is not part of the Spaniard’s plans following several new arrivals in attacking areas.

Ward isn’t a bad player at all, but the fact remains, that if Forest are serious about challenging for promotion, the quite simply there are better options out there than the former Sheffield United man.

Michael Mancienne

The central defender was devoid of any sort of confidence whatsoever last season and the signings of Tobias Figueiredo and Michael Dawson won’t have done his chances of playing regularly next season any good at all.

The 30-year-old’s future looks incredibly bleak if he stays at the City Ground and he has already turned down a move to Turkey during the summer transfer window.

Mancienne is one of Forest’s highest earners and the sooner he can be offloaded from the books the better for both club and player.

Apostolos Vellios

Quite simply put, the Greek striker hasn’t really been consistent enough for Nottingham Forest to suggest that he can become a real big-hitter in the Championship.

The 26-year-old has been a scorer of great goals rather than a great goalscorer during his time with the Reds and his strikes two seasons ago against Aston Villa and Rotherham United were worthy of note.

A move back to his homeland has previously been touted and with the situation now looking desperate for Vellios it might not be too long before he departs the East Midlands-based club.
