Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has revealed that he was ill during Spurs’ victory over Everton last night.

The 28-year-old delivered an impressive display as Antonio Conte’s charges ran out 5-0 winners over the Toffees.

Dier was commanding at the back and stopped everything that came his way, helping Tottenham to a clean sheet.

The England international also had a chance to get on the scoresheet himself, hitting the woodwork with a header.

As per Last Word on Spurs and Squawka, Dier clocked up some impressive statistics against Everton.

He completed more passes (79/87), made more blocks (2), made more clearances (4) than any other player.

The Tottenham media team interviewed Dier after the game, and he sounded like he had a cold, coughing a few times.

“Apart from missing headers, you’re in a good place, aren’t you?” joked the interviewer.

Dier then coughed, and the interviewed added “apart from having a cold as well,” to which the player replied “yeah, apart from being ill!”

And at the end of the interview, the Spurs defender was – again tongue-in-cheek – advised to “rest up”.

Sniffles aside, Dier is certainly in a great place right now, once again highlighting his importance to Tottenham.

Since his return from injury, Spurs have kept two clean sheets in four.

Tottenham have conceded three, with two of those coming against Manchester City.

Dier is forming a great understanding with Cristian Romero which bodes well for the rest of the season and beyond.

The race for the Premier League top four is hotting up, with Spurs still in the running.

If Tottenham can maintain come consistency, then they’ve got a great chance of a Champions League spot next term.
