£27m Tottenham player has picked up hamstring problem, set to miss Man United game

Giovani Lo Celso is expected to miss Tottenham Hotspur’s trip to Manchester United on Sunday due to an ‘issue with his hamstring’.

That’s according to journalist Tom Barclay, who claims the midfielder could miss out as a ‘precaution’.

Lo Celso has enjoyed an encouraging start to life under Ange Postecoglou, having managed four goal contributions in 10 appearances this term.

The midfielder previously struggled to make an impact at Spurs following his £27 million switch from Real Betis over four years ago.

But he’s stepped up well in James Maddison’s absence over the past few weeks and played a key role in Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth last time out in the league.

The Argentine grabbed two assists on the day but was forced off in the 1-0 win over Burnley in the FA Cup on Friday.

Now, it seems that Lo Celso will miss out on Tottenham’s clash against Man United this weekend.

Barclay took to X on Wednesday and shared an update on Lo Celso’s fitness.

The journalist claims the Spurs man has a ‘little issue’ with his hamstring and is likely to miss the game against United.

Tottenham are hopeful he will only miss one game but are not going to risk the midfielder on Sunday.

Tottenham are lacking numbers in the middle of the park at the moment, despite Rodrigo Bentancur’s early return from injury.

Maddison remains sidelined but is expected to return to action later this month.

Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr are currently away on international duty at AFCON 2024.

It leaves Postecoglou short of options in midfield, particularly in terms of creative players.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Dejan Kulusevski return to a midfield role on Sunday in Lo Celso’s absence, which may well lead to a debut for Timo Werner.
