Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma just put in his best performance in a Spurs shirt against Liverpool.

Bissouma made the switch from Brighton over the summer in a deal worth £25 million (BBC). He was expected to hit the ground running and really push Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for a place in the starting line-up.

Making the switch to north London with plenty of Premier League experience under his belt, Bissouma looked to be an astute signing for Spurs.

The 26-year-old has found game time hard to come by and has only recently got a proper run in the side. But he’s put in some mixed displays and seemed to be lacking confidence in a Spurs shirt.

But that changed yesterday and despite losing 2-1 to Jurgen Klopp’s side, Bissouma was impressive in the middle of the park.

Bissouma has benefitted slightly from Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison’s spell on the sidelines, with Conte switching to a 3-5-2 quite regularly in their absence.

The Mali international started alongside Bentancur and Hojbjerg yesterday and put in his best display since making the switch from the south coast.

During recent games, Bissouma has looked slightly shaky on the ball and has taken some heavy touches in possession.

He’s also been guilty of playing too safely and not taking any risks. But he seemed to be full of confidence yesterday, particularly in the second-half.

Liverpool’s press can be relentless at times but Bissouma looked composed under pressure and helped Spurs bypass the press on multiple occasions.

This was one of the massive strengths in his game at Brighton but he had been struggling to show this in north London.

Bissouma seemed happy to receive the ball under pressure yesterday and showed quick-feet to get himself out of some difficult situations.

The former Seagulls man’s biggest strength is undoubtedly his ability to break up play and unsettle the opposition. And in yesterday’s second-half he did this brilliantly as Spurs tried to comeback from 2-0 down.

The midfielder has put in some decent cameo displays for Spurs, particularly against Leicester City back in September. But he had struggled to make an impact as a starter before yesterday’s game.

Bissouma will be hoping his display earns him some more minutes this week before the World Cup break, with games against Nottingham Forest and Leeds looming.
