£25m-rated Almiron would be an upgrade on Perez at Newcastle
According to various reports, including The Daily Mail, Newcastle United are interested in signing Miguel Almiron in January.
Newcastle face competition from West Ham, Arsenal and Tottenham but signing Almiron would be a statement of intent.
And Almiron’s father has recently claimed that Newcastle are in pole position in an interview with the South American media via The Chronicle.
Almiron, who is rated at £25m, currently plays for Atlanta United in the MLS.
But keen to test himself in England, the Paraguay international is seeking a transfer with Newcastle hot on his trail.
Almiron’s arrival at St James’ Park could push Ayoze Perez out of the starting line-up.
Rafa Benitez currently opts to play Perez in behind Salomon Rondon but the 25-year-old blows hot and cold with his performances.
Despite scoring against Wolves last week, many Newcastle fans believe the Spaniard should be doing better.
Almiron could come in and provide Newcastle with an upgrade in the number 10 role.
The 25-year-old racked up a staggering tally of 13 goals and 11 assists in 37 MLS games and led his side to cup victory.
Almiron 83 successful dribbles in 37 games, as well as 1623 passes (and 79 key passes), according to Who Scored.
He has the creative ability to light up St James’ Park and his end product is an improvement on Perez’s, although he would have to adapt to English conditions quickly.
