Andrew Gutman has posted on Instagram after it was confirmed he had completed a permanent move to MLS side Atlanta United from Celtic this month – and immediately joined New York Red Bulls on loan for the 2021 campaign.

Gutman, 24, joined Celtic in January 2019 but in just over two years on the books at Parkhead, Gutman failed to play a single match for the Hoops. Instead, he went on loan to the second tier of Charlotte Indpendence and scored three goals in 15 games.

It saw him earn a loan to Cincinnati for the 2020 campaign and continued his surge of form in American soccer, clocking up 30 outings for the newly-formed MLS side. Now, he has returned to his home country – but this time on a permanent basis.

Atlanta United, another newly-formed side, have decided to make a permanent move for Gutman from Celtic. It is unclear how much he has cost Cininnati, who have instantly loaned the left-footer to New York Red Bulls for 2021. He posted on Instagram.

TBR’s view – Strange move in the first place

Signed in the same month that Matt Polster agreed a move to Rangers, Gutman joined Celtic. Polster, a United States international, had plenty more game time when he joined the Gers – and managed 10 appearances for Rangers at senior level.

So given Gutman had less experience and probably more competition at Celtic, his move to Parkhead was always going to see him fail. That he has, in terms of gaining a chance with the Bhoys. It was the right decision to leave the club.
