21-year-old Tottenham player has suddenly become undroppable for Ange Postecoglou

Pape Matar Sarr has quickly established himself as a key feature in Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side this season.

The 21-year-old netted his third goal of the campaign in the 2-1 win over Brighton on Saturday.

Sarr’s effort got Tottenham back on level terms before he was replaced by Ben Davies in the 80th minute.

It’s fair to say that Spurs have missed Sarr’s energy in midfield over the past four weeks while the youngster was at AFCON 2024 with Senegal.

He returned to action at Goodison Park last weekend as a late substitute, before returning to the starting XI on Saturday.

And despite the sudden wealth of options Ange Postecoglou has in midfield right now, Sarr simply must keep his place in the middle of the park.

Sarr is undroppable for Tottenham right now

With James Maddison, Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur all returning to action in recent weeks, competition for a place in the midfield at Spurs is stern.

Bentancur has already proven he can operate in several roles in midfield, while Bissouma excelled at the base of the three earlier this term.

But Spurs’ best patch of the season came right at the start of the campaign, with Sarr operating in a box-to-box role.

Bissouma’s form has been patchy since his sending off at Luton earlier this season while Maddison is still working his way back to full fitness following an ankle injury.

Yet, Sarr has picked up where he left off after his involvement at AFCON 2024.

His work-rate down the right-hand side of the pitch offers Pedro Porro the license to roam forward more often.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a player who can do a similar job to that of Sarr in this current Spurs side.

In our view, he’s an undroppable part of this current Spurs midfield and we think Bissouma and Bentancur will be forced to battle it out for that No.6 role.

Not many would have expected Sarr to become such a key player for Postecoglou this season, despite showing promise at times last term.

But he’s quickly become a player that Spurs rely upon to provide tireless energy and quality in midfield.
