Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 win over Inter Milan has given Mauricio Pochettino’s side a chance of making it into the next round of the Champions League. However, to do so, Tottenham are likely to need a win against Barcelona in the Nou Camp.
Spurs are level on points with Inter in Group B. The Italians face winless PSV Eindhoven in their final game and will be confident of a win in their fixture.
Tottenham meanwhile have an incredible task on their hands. When it comes to playing at home in the Champions League, Barcelona are formidable.
They last lost a game at the Nou Camp in Europe in May 2013. They lost 3-0 to Bayern Munich in a semi-final second leg. Barcelona’s last 28 games at home since that loss carry an incredible record. 26 wins, two draws and 86 goals scored.
The fact is, this is also a group game. If you want to find Barcelona’s last home defeat in the group stages, you have to go even further back.
Barcelona last lost at home at this stage of the competition in a shock defeat to Russian side Rubin Kazan. In a form of twisted irony, the result put Kazan within touching distance of knocking out Inter Milan, although the Nerazzurri eventually finished above them.
That famous Rubin Kazan win came in October 2009.
Tottenham fans … it appears Barcelona are long overdue.
