Liverpool called on Dejan Lovren for last night’s Carabao Cup match with MK Dons.
The Reds fielded a weakened XI, with the club’s top stars having been given the night off by Jurgen Klopp.
Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip were two such players, and Lovren took up his place in the starting XI alongside Joe Gomez.

It was a chance for the Croatian to dust off some cobwebs and show fans he can serve as an able deputy.
Unfortunately though, Lovren did struggle against the League Two side and looked shaky against the likes of Jordan Bowery.
It was a game one might have expected experienced defender Lovren to dominate, but that simply wasn’t the case.
TBR’s view
Liverpool need to be moving Lovren on at the end of 2019/20 and replacing him with somebody more reliable.

He has been a decent servant for the club but the player’s quality is now questionable, and he is still prone to mistakes.
Given his advancing years he will not develop further, and his best years are certainly behind him.
It is about time the Reds brought somebody a bit younger in, or maybe trusted Ki-Jana Hoever or Sepp van den Berg to feature more for the first-team.
