20-year-old confirms Manchester City exit on Instagram, fans react

Adrian Bernabe has confirmed on Instagram that he will be leaving Manchester City three years after joining from Barcelona. The Spanish talent saw his contract at The Etihad expire on Wednesday and is now a free agent. Manchester City fans have reacted to Bernabe leaving.

Bernabe, 20, joined City in the summer of 2018 when he was just 17. The three-time Spain Under-17 international has since starred for Manchester City’s Under-23 side. Naturally a midfielder, Bernabe has been used just as much at left-back or on the left flank – playing 54 times for the 23’s.

In that time, Bernabe has scored 11 goals and laid on an impressive 16 assists during those 54 games. It has even seen Bernabe handed five Manchester City first-team games – including more than 30 minutes against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup during 2020-21. He posted on Instagram.

What are Manchester City fans saying about Bernabe on Twitter?

Clearly, Bernabe is a player with enormous talent. To be able to break into Manchester City’s side from the academy, amid the enormous talent and constant incoming signings, is impressive. So, it will be interesting to see where next for Bernabe – a return to Spain, on paper, looks likely.

But another player to leave City for Barcelona looks unlikely. Now 20, he will need first-team game time and he would struggle to get that at Barcelona. A move to follow Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia is unlikely then. But City fans have questioned why Bernabe has been allowed to leave.
