'Better than Winks': Some Spurs fans hail youngster's U23s display v Liverpool U23s

Saturday was not a good day for Spurs, to put it mildly.

However, there was one thing that Tottenham fans could be happy about.

Spurs prodigy Alfie Devine delivered another masterclass for the Under-23s, helping them to victory over Liverpool U23s.

The 17-year-old midfielder has been making waves at Tottenham and for the Young Lions over the past year.

Devine joined the Spurs academy last summer from Wigan, and has already made his senior debut for the Lilywhites.

His goalscoring appearance against Marine in the FA Cup earlier this year made him the youngest player to have turned out – and scored – for Spurs in a senior game.

And in August, Tottenham handed Devine a contract until 2024 as reward for his progress in the N17 ranks.

For a 17-year-old to be playing in the Under-23s, it clearly shows he’s got amazing talent.

But for Devine to be head and shoulders in the competition – these are the makings of a potential star.

On Saturday, he scored twice to help Spurs come from behind to beat their Reds counterparts in Stevenage.

Devine’s first, just after the half-hour mark, was a wonderful solo effort which cancelled out Kaide Gordon’s opener.

The Spurs starlet collected a loose ball midway inside the visitors’ half, slaloming past defenders and drilling home.

Devine’s second came with nine minutes left, Jack Clarke putting his teammate through for a composed finish.

Devine now has three goals and one assist from four Premier League games, an amazing tally.

And Spurs fans are rightly excited about a player for whom the sky’s the limit:
