Celtic are being heavily linked with a January interest in Wigan Athletic midfielder Nick Powell. As reported by The Sun, the Bhoys are ready to go head-to-head with Brighton and Hove Albion for the player’s services with a £5 million price-tag being mentioned.
It would no doubt be a welcome transfer. Powell has been in fine form for Wigan Athletic in recent times and that form has continued into the new season.
Celtic would no doubt love to have Powell playing behind the talented Odsonne Edouard or talismanic Leigh Griffiths.
But what would it mean for Tom Rogic?
The Australian has been struggling for consistent form so far this season. His performance in the recent 0-0 draw with St Mirren was particularly uninspiring and left fans frustrated at his continued difficulties.
With the arrival of Powell, the Australian would have a direct rival and one which, in all honesty, carries much more of a goal-threat than the 25-year-old.
Celtic would not like to lose Rogic of course, but the Australian might be asked to play second fiddle more than he would like in the Scottish Premiership.
A move for Powell would be great for Celtic. But for Rogic, it could prove a test of his mettle.
