A highly-rated young prodigy reportedly on the radar of Arsenal has made Goal’s NxGn 2020 list of top players born on or after 1 January 2001.

According to Dutch outlet Voetbal4u, the Gunners are eyeing a move for AZ Alkmaar striker Myron Boadu with a view to finding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s successor at the Emirates Stadium.

The 19-year-old has been in excellent form for his side this season, registering an impressive 20 goals and 13 assists in all competitions.

In December last year, Boadu told Goal about how he previously turned down a move to Arsenal in favour of Alkmaar.

“I’m playing in the first team now,” he said. “I don’t know if that would have been the case at Arsenal, where I would play with boys of my own age, which didn’t appeal to me. I never regretted rejecting those clubs.”

Boadu’s exploits have seen him make Goal’s NxGn 2020 list, the outlet ranking him in 20th place.

“Myron Boadu had offers from Ajax and Arsenal when he was younger, but he instead opted to join AZ and it has proved a shrewd move, with the 19-year-old striker now banging in the goals at the AFAS Stadion,” wrote Goal.

“Boadu has already broken into the senior Netherlands squad, becoming the first player born in the 21st century to both represent and score for the Oranje, not that Under-21 coach Erwin van de Looi is surprised: ‘He is so cool in front of goal and so dangerous from deep. He has that ability to just score. That is really a talent.'”

Although Boadu previously rejected Arsenal when he was younger, he did so out of a desire to play first-team football rather than spend his time in the academy.

If Mikel Arteta’s Gunners are now looking to sign him with the intention of making their senior squad right away, the 19-year-old may just have food for thought regarding the next step in his career.

Voetbal4U have reported that AZ have set an asking price of £18m for their star forward – hardly breaking the bank for a very talented player who has progressed nicely in recent years.
