Chelsea round-up: Late bid for Juventus ace; Llorente talks held; midfielder submits transfer request
Chelsea could make a surprise move in the final hours of the summer transfer window as Calciomercato and Metro quote Premium Sport as revealing that the Blues will make one final offer for Juventus left-back Alex Sandro. They are believed to have made a move earlier this summer, but the Daily Mail say that they were unsuccessful.
The Italian club have been hugely reluctant to even consider allowing their £60 million defender to leave, but Chelsea have clearly maintained an interest. Now, Antonio Conte may make a late move to try to bring the Brazilian to London, though it seems unlikely that the Turin club’s stance will have changed.
Chelsea are also in talks with Swansea as Sky Sports say that the club are hoping to secure a deal for striker Fernando Llorente. The veteran has also attracted interest from Everton, but the Toffees have not made a formal offer for the 32-year-old with only just over 24 hours left of the transfer window.
Llorente worked under Conte at Juventus and was once Alvaro Morata’s understudy, a role that he could resume if he does move to west London. With 15 goals in the Premier League last season, his experience and quality may bring another option to the Chelsea attack for the next season.
Talks are also ongoing over a move for Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater. Sky Sports now say that the 27-year-old has submitted a transfer request in order to try to force through a move with no agreement in sight between the two parties as time runs out for a deal to be done.
Drinkwater is obviously keen to make the move, but given the case of Riyadh Mahrez, who submitted a transfer request early this summer and has still not left the King Power Stadium, it may make little difference. Chelsea remain keen to get their man though and could stump up the cash.
