TBR Football understands that Barcelona’s latest starlet Dro Fernandez has no intention of listening to potential interest that is emerging from the Premier League and beyond.

17-year-old Dro, as he is known, has come through the famed La Masia academy and he made his debut at the weekend, starting their 2-1 win over Real Sociedad.

We understand that Dro was already well known to numerous sides with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City among those who have been tracking his progress, along with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

Dro’s current deal is due to expire in 2027, but TBR Football understands that Barca are already advanced with talks for a new deal when he turns 18, as they are aware that there is interest in their latest prospect.

Exclusive: Dro happy at Barcelona and new contract is close

Our chief correspondent Graeme Bailey confirms that Barcelona are working hard not to lose any of their top young players.

“Since the days of Cesc Fabregas and Gerard Pique, Barcelona have been working hard to keep the best talent from La Masia,” said Bailey.

“Dro is a huge talent. When you talk to Barca sources about him they get very excited.

“I am told that had Fermin Lopez departed this summer that the presence of Dro would have meant they did not sign a replacement – he is that good.

“Arsenal, Chelsea and City have, and are, keeping close tabs on Dro’s progress and his people are aware of the potential interest but he is very happy at Barcelona – he loves the club and wants to become a key player for them. He will be signing a new deal in the New Year.”

TBR Football previously reported that Chelsea had held talks with Lopez, who was considering his options during the summer. Sources also claimed he had spoken with Manchester City and Tottenham.

Dro reacts to his Barcelona debut

Dro, Barcelona’s latest wonderkid, admitted he was shocked after finding out he had been named in Hansi Flick’s starting XI against Sociedad on Sunday.

He played the first 45 minutes and caught the eye, and speaking post-match, he couldn’t hide his delight.

“I’m happy, very happy. It’s incredible. When they told me I’d be starting, I didn’t believe it at first, but then I calmed down,” Dro said.

“The players and the coach reassured me, they told me to do what I do well in training, and that gave me confidence.”
