Manchester United round-up: Mourinho reacts to Swansea win; De Gea could depart; Draxler enquiry

Manchester United recorded their second win of the season in style in south Wales on Saturday lunchtime as they recorded their second consecutive 4-0 win to effectively secure top spot. Post match, manager Jose Mourinho revealed his delight as he told the club website:

“I think the team is confident and in both matches winning 1-0 at half-time, we didn’t start the second half looking like we had to keep a clean sheet to win the match. We tried to control the game by keeping the ball and creating chances and we did that in both matches. The players that came on from the bench did well. Easy for me to make decisions, easy for me to make changes. The players make the manager look better and I thank their fantastic attitude, even the ones that weren’t selected because we know we have to have a squad to do something special this season.”

Eric Bailly opened the scoring just before the half-time break but goals from Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial ensured that it was a convincing scoreline come the final whistle.

One man who had a fairly quiet afternoon was David de Gea. The Sun surprisingly claim that Manchester United could be prepared to sell the Spanish goalkeeper next summer, especially if Real Madrid reignite their interest in the former Atletico Madrid man for the third time.

The report indicates that the club are already considering AC Milan’s 18-year-old goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, despite the fact that he signed a new and extended contract at the San Siro this summer. Whilst United fans would not want to see the back of De Gea, the arrival of the highly rated Italian may provide some comfort.

Another highly rated player who United may be looking to bring to Old Trafford is Julian Draxler. The Gambling Times believe that Manchester United are one of four Premier League clubs to make an enquiry into the German’s availability after Paris Saint-Germain told him that he was no longer needed after the arrival of Neymar.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are also believed to be interested in the attacking midfielder, who only moved to France from Wolfsburg in January. He has made an impact in Ligue Un but with a number of options available to Unai Emery, the French club could look to cash in on Draxler.
